Don't let anyone tell you "vocations are declining"! Here's the word from the Vatican, as reported by the Catholic News Service.
VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Pope John Paul II received March 17 the first copy of the Vatican's 1998 yearbook, which indicated a continued increase in the number of priestly ordinations. A Vatican statement highlighted the good news in vocations. The Vatican said the number of priests in the world stands at more than 404,300, about the same as the previous year. It said a positive development has been the increase in priestly ordinations, both diocesan and religious, which were up 2.1 percent from the previous year.
