Chaplet of the Holy Spirit

The chaplet of the Holy Spirit honors the Holy Spirit in the same way the Rosary

honors the Virgin Mary. Both are intended to draw the soul closer to God. The Chaplet is a devotion approved by Pope Leo XIII in 1902.

The devotion begins with the Sign of the Cross, an act of contrition, and a hymn to the Holy Spirit, using three small beads.

Next are five groups of seven small beads between two large beads. These five groups represent the five mysteries of the Holy Spirit and the five wounds of Christ, the means by which the graces of the Holy Spirit were made available to all people.

In each group, the Glory Be is said on the seven small beads; and an Our Father and a Hail Mary are said on the two large beads.

At the end of the five groups, the Chaplet concludes on the three small beads with the Apostles' Creed, one Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be for the intentions of the Holy Father.

The five mysteries of the Holy Spirit are:

  1. The Holy Spirit at the Incarnation
  2. The Holy Spirit at the Baptism of Our Lord
  3. The Holy Spirit Led Jesus into the Desert
  4. The Holy Spirit at Pentecost
  5. The Holy Spirit in the Church Today
